Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey Everybody!

We just wanted to log on to wish you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving.

This year, we have a LOT to be thankful for!

We started kMw around this time last year and while there are a MILLION things we still want to accomplish with our band, we have to take a minute to be thankful for what we've accomplished thus far. We never thought that in one year's time we would have an album's worth of original music written and recorded, have played live shows, AND have over 3700 fans on our MySpace Page!

For less than a year with no record label or agent thus far,We have to say that we think that's a pretty big accomplishment for two teenagers who started playing guitar in their basement with nothing but a dream of being rocksars!

The best part of Thanksgiving is the opportunity to reflect on all we have to be grateful for; grateful for all that we've accomplished, grateful for the little things that make us all smile, grateful for friends & family who get us through everything, and grateful for the hope of the future.

So here's to everything we've accomplished and the hope that next year at this time, we'll be spending this day in New York City!!

Peace, Love, & LOTS of Turkey!

Willy's Blog

Hey everybody what’s going on?
Just as Katie mentioned in her blog, you all have possibly heard our music and may have even watched our youtube videos but still you don’t know much about us as individuals. So… HI!!!! My full name is William John McKenna IV. I am 17 years old and am from St. Louis, Missouri.
Ever since I was very young my childhood dream was to be a baseball player for the St. Louis Cardinals. Though I still love baseball, my dreams have definitely changed since then. I have since gotten into playing guitar, playing tennis and also doing a little bit of acting. I guess you could say that I am interested in just a little bit of everything.
I began playing baseball around kindergarten. Along with baseball I also took up tennis as a very young child as well. I began acting my eighth grade year when Katie needed help with finding guys for her one act play and I volunteered to help. Since then, I have done a few one acts and a few full length plays and fallen in love with acting.

I began playing guitar freshman year and just like every other activity I completely loved playing. I just though that it was such a cool concept that with this instrument I have any song that I want to play right at my fingertips. Even though I did not originally take guitar to play in a band I am so happy that I began playing when I did so I was able to develop my skill so I can now play all of Katie and I’s original music. One of the main reasons that I have loved playing guitar so much is because of our wonderful guitar teacher Michael Levine. Michael has been one of the main components to our band, both teaching us how to play guitar and helping us write the music to go along with the lyrics and he also currently plays at open mic nights and concerts with us.
Even though I play guitar, the true hero of the band is Katie. Katie had the original idea to even start the band. When she originally approached me about a band I was skeptical at first because it was just something that seemed totally out of the blue, but now that we have started there is no looking back and it is one of the best decisions I have ever made to agree to start kMw. Not only did Katie have the original idea for the band but she also writes the lyrics and is the one constantly pushing me to be the best I can and to contribute as much as I possibly can to the band.
I hope that this has truly let you our fans know more about me as a person. I love all of our fans and thank each and every one of you for the love and support you have shown us since we have started. Though we are only at the beginning of our dream we can not thank you enough for the encouragement so we can pursue our true life long dream.

Because Katie is insisting that I list my "favorites," . . .

Movie: Role Models

Band: Fall Out Boy

Food: Pizza

Celebrity Crush: Demi Lovato

Peace Out.

Katie's Blog

Whats Up Everybody?

I'm in the mood to blog, so I thought I would log on and give you all an update.

I was thinking and I realized that up until this point we have talked a lot about who kMw is as a band, but barely at all about who each of us is as an individual.

So . . . we decided that we would each write our own blog to let you all get to know us. Since, I'm already logged on (this is Katie, btw) I'll go first and I'll have to remind Willy to write his blog later. (he has a very short memory sometimes). lol.

I guess I will start by saying HELLO Everybody! My name is Katie Lynne McKenna. I'm 19 years old and live in St. Louis, MO.

One thing you should know about me is that I've wanted to be a singer pretty much my entire life. I decided when I was about 5 that I wanted to be a country music singer. While I've since changed to pop rock music, my dream to perform onstage has stayed the same.

I started playing guitar junior year of high school. My first year of lessons didn't go so well and I quit, but after finding a new teacher, I started playing again and Willy decided to start playing as well. I'm so glad I made the switch, especially since our current guitar teacher has been such a driving force in our music! He has helped us write the music for all of our songs and is helping us arrange open mic nights to practice playing.

I've written all of the lyrics to all of our songs thus far. I wrote my first song in Fall of 2007. I was trying to process this bad experience I had with a guy I had a crush on and just wanted to vent what I was feeling. I was really worried about letting anybody read my lyrics at first, so I sent them to only one person: my best friend Jeannette. She was really supportive and said she really liked them and it's thanks to her support that I had the courage to keep writing and to share my lyrics. I started writing a LOT and have gotten really into writing lyrics.

The first song that we put music to was "We're Gonna Be Famous" which has kind of become our theme song. The song has a lot of sentimental value since it was our first original song and the first song we ever recorded. It's also the only song we've made a music video for. (You can check it out on our YouTube page).

For me, writing is incredibly therapeutic. It's kind of like just letting go of all the stress and emotion that builds up and putting all of that energy into a creative medium.

I love going to concerts and listening to other artists' music and using that for inspiration for my own writing. After I go to a really good concert, I love to come home and just pour out new lyrics. I wrote the lyrics for "You Don't Know" after a Jonas Brothers/Rooney Concert in February 2008.

Music is a HUGE part of my life, but I do have other hobbies. I would love to be a fashion designer & have my own fashion line or be a costume designer and I would love to direct movies someday. I also love dance and took ballet, tap and jazz for 12 years and hip hop for 3 years and play piano.

I tend to be a really random person, so here are some random facts about me:

  • My favorite celebrities are Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Reese Witherspoon.

  • My favorite color is PINK.

  • I LOVE Juicy Couture, Dooney & Bourke, and Ed Hardy!!

  • I can never pick my favorite movie - I have like 20. I love High School Musical, Hairspray, Raise Your Voice, Pirates of the Caribbean, National Treasure, Tommy Boy, Along Came Polly, Music & Lyrics, Halloweentown. I like pretty much every kind of movie EXCEPT scary movies!!

  • I'm a Disney maniac! Walt Disney is my hero and I love going to Disney World (and Land).

  • My favorite candy is Goofy's Candy Co.'s Sour Gummies. (Pick them up the next time you're at a Disney Theme Park!!)
  • I was an obsessive NSYNC fan during the boy band years. lol.
  • My favorite books are Pride and Prejudice, Kingdom Keepers, and The Notebook.

I tend to be a quiet person if I'm around people I don't really know, but when I'm around my friends and family I NEVER shut up. (They'll be the firsts to validate that! lol). I have to give a shout out to my best friends; Jeannette, Soddy, Sarsy, Erin, Willard, Lexi Couster, and Mom!

Most of all, thank you to all of you guys! Willy and I both really appreciate all of your help and support and please, continue to spread the word about kMw!

Peace Out,

Katie
